Known for her legendary role, Samantha Johns, in “The Sex and the City”, Kim Victoria Cattrall was born on August 21, 1956 in Liverpool, England. She was only three months old when her family moved to Courtenay, Canada. However, she moved back to England briefly at the age of 11, due to her grandmother’s declining health. There she sat for acting exams with London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art but returned to Canada to formally complete her high school education.

In 1972, Kim Cattrall left Canada and moved to New York to start her career in acting. She enrolled in the American Academy of Dramatic Arts where she was spotted by Otto Preminger who immediately signed her for the movie, “Rosebud”. Following this, she guest starred in numerous Universal TV shows. Some of the shows in which she appeared includes; “Columbo” (1978), “The Bastard” (1978), “The Rebels” (1979) and “The Incredible Hulk” (1979).

She eventually made her transition from television to movies and worked with Jake Lemmon in “Tribute” (1980) which was nominated for the Oscars and she was also appreciated by the critics for her work in “Ticket to Heaven”. One of the movie roles which she is most famous for was in “Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country” in which she plays Lieutenant Valeris. As well as acting, she also helped to grow and evolve the character and also contributed in coming up with its name.

Simultaneously, she has also worked in stage plays like “Three Sisters” and “Wild Honey”. However, her shining moment came when she was signed for HBO’s “Sex and the City” series as the highly sensual Public Relations Executive, Samantha Jones. From that moment onward, Cattrall became an international figure, becoming notoriously famous amongst her fans. She earned five Emmy Awards and four Golden Globe Awards nominations for her work in the series and finally won a Golden Globe in 2003. Apart from this, she is also the winner of two Screen Actors Guild Awards.  When the series ended, she was again casted as Samantha Jones in “Sex and the City” movie and its sequel, both of which were instant hits.

In 2005, she took on the lead in the Disney movie, “Ice Princess” in which she played the character of ‘Tina Harwood’, who is an ice skating coach. Following 2005, she did a lot of commercials including ones for Tetley Tea and Nissan cars. In 2009, she received a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame. In 2010, Kim Cattrall appeared in “The Ghost Writer” where she played Amelia Bly, a movie that did well both with critics and the audiences. Another of her critically acclaimed roles includes her work as lead in “Private Lives”. Catrall has also played Cleopatra in “Antony and Cleopatra”, a role which was very well received amongst audiences. Most recently in 2011, she took part in “Uptown Downstairs Abbey” which was a parody of the popular TV series, “Downtown Abbey”. She played the role of Lady Grantham and worked with Victoria Wood, Jennifer Saunders and Simon Callow, among others. She was also titled Honorary Fellow at the Liverpool John Moores University for her work in dramatic arts.

In her personal life, she has been married thrice and currently resides in New York. She is also an ardent fan of Liverpool F.C.
