Known for her mesmerizing presence in independent movies, Molly Parker was born on June 30, 1972 in Pitt Meadows, British Columbia. Her parents owned a retail store and were extremely devoted to their children. From the time Parker was three; she took up ballet and practiced it ardently till the age of seventeen.  However her passion for acting was ignited when at the age of fourteen she began participating in school plays. Soon after her uncle introduced her to his agent and she began auditioning.

In the beginning the only roles that came her way were minor ones in television series. After graduating from high school, she enrolled in Vancouver’s Gastown Actors’ Studio to study acting. She finally got a break when in 1995 she was offered to appear in the television movie, “Serving in Silence: The Margarethe Cammermeyer Story”, playing the role of the daughter of a lesbian military officer.

By now, she had established herself as a budding actress when for her work in the television movie, “Paris or Somewhere” released in 1994; Parker earned a nomination at the Gemini Awards. However, her career massively accelerated in 1996, when she appeared in Lynne Stopkewich’s movie, “Kissed”, where she played the role of a necrophiliac who is obsessed with death. Her performance was so impressive, that she became a favorite with the critics and also earned a Genie Award. After the movie got distributed in the US, Parker was soon hounded by agents from Hollywood. Soon she was appearing on the cover of magazines such as “Variety”. More movies subsequently followed, some of which include; “The Five Senses”, “Sunshine” and “Wonderland” in 1999 and “Suspicious River” in 2000 where she worked with Stopkewich again.

In 1998, Molly Parker appeared in the sitcom, “Twitch City”, where she played the role of Don McKellar’s girlfriend, impressing the audiences with her versatility in a comic role. She also appeared in the HBO’s television series, “Six Feet Under” in 2001, playing the role of a female rabbi as well as being a regular in HBO’s series, “Deadwood” in 2004.

In 2001, Parker became the object of attention again when she appeared in another provocative sex themed movie, “The Center of the World”. She played the role of a lap dancer from San Francisco, who is paid to become an escort. Her impeccable performance earned her a nomination for the Independent Spirit Award. In 2002 she landed nominations for “Best Supporting Actress” at the Genie Awards for her work in the movies; “War Bride” and “Last Wedding” in 2001, respectively. She managed to win the award for “Last Wedding”.

Following in 2008, she appeared in the show, “Swingtown” and also in Tim Kasher’s video. In 2012, she was part of the show, “The Firm” where she played Abby McDeere. Alongside this, she was a part of many episodes, of the sixth season, of the show, “Dexter”.  In 2014, she was offered to play the role of Congresswoman Jacqueline Sharp in the second season of the drama series, “House of Cards”. Subsequently, she also started working on the thriller, “The 9th Life of Louis Drax” in October 2014.

In her personal life, Molly Parker was married to Matthew Bissonnette however the two got divorced. She has a son, named William who was born on October 2006.
