Known as the unofficial poker ambassador and one of the highest earning poker players, Daniel Negreanu was born on July 26, 1974 to Annie and Constantin, who emigrated from Romania to settle down in Toronto. Right from an early age, Negreanu displayed having big ambitions and aspired to be rich. He received his early education from Pineway Public Middle School where his boisterous behavior and inconsideration for school rules and good manners were the objects of constant complaints and threats of expulsion by his principal.

Growing up, Negreanu was more inclined towards becoming a professional pool player however that changed when by the age of 15 he was introduced to the game of poker. He had a natural aptitude for numbers and probability and soon mastered the art of pool hustling and gambling. From that moment, there was no stopping him. He dropped out of high school and started playing poker with people twice his age. He quickly built his bankroll by playing in various gambling clubs and halls and charity casinos in Toronto. However, he had his eyes set on the gambling capital of the world; Las Vegas.

Soon after he turned 21, he packed his stuff and headed to Las Vegas. Unfortunately for him, he realized that the workings of Las Vegas were startlingly different to what he was accustomed back at home. He lost all of his savings and subsequently had to move back home in Toronto in order to build up his bankroll again. However, instead of being deterred from his defeat, he was even more determined to make a name for himself as a renowned poker player.

After pulling in countless hours of studying, playing and perfecting his game, he finally understood the dynamics of professional poker. Finally it seemed as if his hard work paid off when in 1997 Negreanu was named as “Best All Rounder” at Foxwoods’ World Poker Final. In 1998, he participated in the World Series of Poker and won a whopping amount of $169,460 in $2000 Pot Limit Hold ‘Em event. He was only 23 when he won himself the World Series of Poker bracelet, becoming the youngest person ever to win such an honor. He was titled, “Kid Poker”, following his win.

In 2003, Daniel Negreanu continued his winning streak when he entered in another World Series of Poker and apart from winning the bracelet; he also won the S.H.O.E bracelet. In 2004, he had the best year of his professional life when he made it to the final eleven tables, bagging 2 WPT victories including the Bellagio and Borgata as well as winning his third World Series of Poker bracelet. His total prize winnings amounted to an astounding amount of $4,465,907 and for his excellent performances throughout the year of 2004; he earned himself the titles of “Card Player Magazine Player of the Year” and “World Series of Poker Player of the Year”.

Deciding to branch out a little, he released his book, “Hold’em Wisdom for all Players” in 2007 and “Power Hold’em Strategy” in 2008. In 2007, he was made a member of Team PokerStars.  Recently in 2013, he relived his success from 2004 as he got victorious at the WSOP Asia-Pacific Main Event and bagged a WSOP bracelet in the WSOP Europe High Roller event. He was also titled the “WSOP Player of the Year”, “Bluff Player of Year” and “Card Player Magazine Player of the Year”, for 2013, respectively.

Daniel Negreanu has also appeared in movies like “X – Men Origins: Wolverine” and “Detention” as well as various other television shows.
