Primarily known for her role as Terri Schuester in “Glee”, Jessalyn Sarah Gilsig was born on November 30, 1971 in Montreal, Quebec to Claire and Toby Gilsig. She displayed the talent for acting from a very young age and subsequently started acting when she turned twelve. After completing high school from Trafagar School in Montreal, Gilsig took admission in McGill University in 1989, from where she graduated with a BA degree in English in 1993. She also enrolled for Advanced Theatre Training at Harvard University.

Jessalyn Gilsig started her career as a voice actor and did voiceovers in movies such as, “Mascarade” and “The Journey Home”. She has also been the part of television series such as, “The Little Flying Bears”, “Gulliver’s Travels” and “Young Robin Hood”.

In 1995, Gilsig moved to New York City where she was offered the chance to appear in off-Broadway plays. Even though she had been part of several Canadian shows in 1980s and early 1990s, her career in television officially started later in 1990 when she was offered to appear as guest star in television shows such as, “Viper” and “Seven Days”. It was while she was guest starring in the show, “The Practice” that she was spotted by David E. Kelley who offered her a role in, “Snoops” as the replacement for Paula Marshall. Unfortunately for Gilsig, the show was taken off air before the episodes featuring her, could be broadcasted. However, Kelley fashioned the role of Lauren Davis who was a social studies teacher, specifically for Gilsig in the series, “Boston Public”. The show started in 2000 and Gilsig left the show after its second season in 2002.

Following “Boston Public”, Gilsig met the producer, Ryan Murphy who offered her the role of Gina Russo, a sexaholic, for the television show, “Nip/Tuck” in 2003. Gilsig was part of “Nip/Tuck” till 2008. During this, she was also offered to guest star in television shows such as, “NYPD Blue” in 2004 for which she did five episodes and “Prison Break” in 2005 in which she appeared in four episodes. In 2006, she also appeared in the show, “Law & Order”.

Apart from her work in television and theatre, Gilsig has also tried her hand in movies. She made her debut with the movie, “The Horse Whisperer” starring Robert Redford, in 1998, in which she had a minor role as well as the movie, “Jackknife” starring Robert Di Niro. She has also done voiceover for the animated movie, “Quest for Camelot” in 1998. She accepted the role as the lead in the movie, “Flood” in 2007 and appeared in, “Chicks with Sticks” in 2004. However it is for her work in television that Jessalyn Gilsig is really known for.

Some of her recent work includes her role in the series, “Friday Night Lights” in 2007 in which she plays the role of Shelley and “Heroes” in which she plays Meredith Gordon. In 2009, Gilsig was offered the role of Terri Schuester in the musical television show, “Glee”. Jessalyn Gilsig was a part of “Glee” from 2009 till 2011 and returned back to the set for an episode in 2012. In 2013, she appeared in the show, “Vikings” as Siggy.

In her personal life, she was married to Bobby Solomon and the couple has a daughter named Penelope. However the two parted ways in 2010 when Gilsig filed for divorce.
