Shannon Lee Tweed was born on March 10, 1957 in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador and is considered to be one of the most popular mainstream erotica actors. Tweed relocated her family to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan after a tragic car accident that pushed her father into a coma. Tweed was studying to become a nurse at that time however she was also a keen participator in beauty pageants after undergoing a breast enlargement surgery. She earned a spot as the third runner up in the Miss Ottawa competition in 1978 and also went on to win the Miss Canada music competition for her singing.

She first entered the entertainment industry in 1981 when she was featured on the “Playboy” magazine as Miss November. Following that in 1982, she earned the title of “Playmate of the Year”. Tweed and her sister, Tracy, were both offered to appear on the magazine spread. Tweed stayed at the Playboy residence for the time period of fourteen months but eventually had to leave because of her habit of using cocaine

At first Tweed mainly appeared only in television series such as the comedy drama by HBO, “1st and Ten” and “Falcon Crest”. Along with that, she was also offered to guest star in “Frasier” and “The Dukes of Hazzard”. Tweed’s movie career was mostly in B movies at this point in time some of which includes movies like, “Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death” in 1989 and “No Contest II” in 1998.  However her big break can said to be when she was offered a role in the teen sex comic movie, “Hot Dog…The Movie” in 1984. From then, Tweed has acted in over sixty movies including, “Detroit Rock City” in 1999, “Night Eyes 3” in which both Tweed and her sister Tracy, co-starred and most recently in 2002, in “My Guide to Becoming a Rock Star” in which she played the mother of a struggling musician.

Shannon Tweed and her family also featured in the television reality show titled, “Gene Simmons Family Jewels” which ran from 2006 till 2012. One of the focal points of the show was when Simmons proposed marriage to Tweed and the couple got married at the Beverley Hills Hotel in California. The show also featured guest appearances by Tweed’s sister Tracy, who offered her frozen embryo to Tweed who had been debating whether or not to adopt. One of the episodes of the show was shot in Saskatoon where Tweed is from and it was during this time that she was honored with a street sign, titled as “Tweed Lane”. At that time, the street did not exist however the Saskatoon City Council later permitted to name an actual lane located in Rosewood in Tweed’s honor.

In 2006, Tweed returned to the limelight when she published a scandalous autobiography titled as “Kiss and Tell”. Tweed has also done voiceover for a video game that features her appearance and is titled as, “Shannon Tweed’s Attack of The Groupies”. Apart from that, she also narrated the reality television show, “Ex-Wives of Rock”.

In her personal life, she was briefly involved with Hugh Hefner during her Playboy days however she started dating Gene Simmons in 1983 and the two have been in a successful relationship since then. Shannon Tweed has two children; Nicholas and Sophie Simmons.
